Standaard Rome Ciampino to Florence?

5 of us (including 2 elderly people) are landing in Rome Ciampino at
around 4.30 on Monday week, and need to be in Florence that night. I'm
presuming the quickest/smoothest way to get there would be to take a
taxi directly from the airport to Termini station, then a train onto
Florence.

Can anyone tell me:

* Is it relatively easy to find a large taxi for 5 people at that
airport, and how roughly how much would such a trip cost?

* Since there might be delays to flights, etc, I don't want to book a
particular train journey. Is this advisable, or is there a danger the
train could be booked up on the day? (I've travelled that route before
and the train was relatively empty.)

Any other tips appreciated,

Thanks in advance,

P.

No, there ain't, Bill. They're landing at *Ciampino*, where public transport
connections are not so hot. The local bus service would take them to either
Ciampino railway station or the nearest underground terminus (Anagnina,
IIRC), whence they could get the metro to Termini. There certainly used to
be a dedicated coach service in connection with Go flights, and it may be
that the OP's airline will offer a similar service. If not, a taxi ought not
to be too pricy, as Ciampino is closer to the centre than Fiumicino.

Yes, there is still a coach, with rather irregular departure times
(check the airport website), but leaving from just outside the terminal.

A driver and 6 passenger minivan is probably your best bet.

I used both of these companies but this one is probably the cheapest
www.romeshuttlelimousine.com
They say Fiumicino on their website but mention service to 'all
airports'.

www.limoservicerome.com is very reliable and popular, they charge
€70.

I would probably go with the limo services Poetic Justic advised, at
least you have door to door service and if you all split the cost its
very inexpensive and conveinent ,but here a few sites which might help
you also
http://www.terravision.it/rome_ciampino.html

Thanks for the advice, everybody. The Terravision service seems fine,
but for convienience, I may opt for
http://www.romeshuttlelimousine.com. €50 for 5 of us isn't much more
than getting the bus, and probably more comfortable.

Thanks again,

P.

There are frequent trains on that route, so if one should be full,
book the next one. First class is rarely full, so try that if second
class is fully booked.
